ACT Writing Prompts — ACT Practice 13

Summertime is the highly anticipated break from school that students and teachers look forward to every year. The traditional break has existed for centuries and students feel entitled to three months off each year. Unfortunately, more and more scientific studies have indicated that students’ time away from school during the summer causes them to forget what they’ve learned and to suffer a decrease in their academic abilities. To fix this problem, the state is now considering making school year-round. Supporters of the year-round school claim that it will produce great academic benefits by helping students consistently apply their knowledge without the “summer slump” that makes them weaker. Their opponents, however, claim that students still improve overall year to year, and missing out on a summer break will do more harm than good. In your opinion, should there be a year-round requirement for students?
